January 21, 2005 – (New York, NY) - A remarkable man and a “heroic” voice - both are captured on the self-titled CD Ronan – Ronan Tynan’s solo debut for Decca/Universal to be released March 1st. “For the first time,” the Irish tenor explains, “I’m singing material that has tremendous depth and weight... a greater variety of music [beyond] the classic ‘Irish tenor’ vein.” Produced by Nick Patrick (Amici Forever), the disc features 14 tracks including originals penned by notable writers such as Richard Marx, ,Desmond Child and Aldo Nova among others, as well as interpretations of popular favorites such as “Man of La Mancha,” “From A Distance” and “Amazing Grace.” On the heels of the CD release, Ronan will embark on a U.S. tour officially kicking off at the opening of Notre Dame University’s new theater on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.
Ronan is a musical labor of love from an artist whose ability to connect and resonate with audiences of all ages is remarkable. Many are already familiar with his distinctive voice that has often lent itself to helping those battling back against despair. From singing at the funerals of those lost on 9/11, (and numerous benefits since for their families, including the NYPD and New York Fire Department), he was also personally asked to sing at the funeral of President Reagan and the recent Presidential Inauguration Prayer Service for George W. Bush. All of America knows his rendition of “God Bless America” that has brought pride to sold-out baseball games at Yankee Stadium and national TV audiences.
Ronan Tynan’s voice is filled with a comforting understanding gained from overcoming his own adversity and enormous obstacles. Born with a lower limb disability that eventually caused his legs to be amputated, he later went on to win numerous Paralympics medals. Ronan also earned a degree as a full-fledged medical doctor from the prestigious Trinity College, and ultimately conquered singing after winning a BBC talent show, “Go For It,” and singing as one of the Irish Tenors to worldwide acclaim. “Halfway Home,” his autobiography was published in February of 2001, and Tynan also enjoys a busy career as a motivational speaker in front of sold out crowds everywhere.
Unstoppable is synonymous with Ronan Tynan. Upon his CD release March 1st, the larger than life singer will be seen on national TV programs such as Good Morning America and ABC’s Primetime Live among others. On March 11th, the tenor will participate in an event hosted by The Smithsonian Associates, the education and outreach arm of the Smithsonian Institution, for an evening of interview and performance in Washington DC. A national U.S. tour sponsored by Baldwin Pianos and Tourism Ireland will continue throughout the spring, and Tynan is already tapped to appear on the annual July 4th PBS special, “A Capital Fourth.”
